How to stay connected with your audience during Ramadan

We came across this really awesome article on Communicate on how brands can keep the connection going with their audience throughout Ramadan. Here at Mint Stalk, a leading Digital Marketing Agency operating in the UAE, we found it really insightful and relevant, and we wanted to share some of those insights with you.

This Holy Month of Ramadan, brands will most probably try to merge the religious aspects to their business activities somehow in order to give back to the community and create affinity around doing something good. According to the article, it should be way more than just posting a moon graphic on Instagram with your wishes. As a business, you should know what resonates with your audience the most when it comes to something as specific as religion. It’s important to emotionally engage on a much deeper level while avoiding looking like you’re trying too hard. Screen-time will increase during that period so it’s your opportunity as a brand to make this work for you.

If you are a hotel or an F&B outlet, how do you cater for your Muslim clientèle? Some places have gone to great extents to appeal to this niche audience - for example, are your meals Hala? If not, are you willing to make an exception to give them this option, at least temporarily? If it’s still not possible, would you get out of your way to show them what other restaurants in the area do it? And your working hours - will you extend them to make it possible for them to have a meal at an appropriate time? All these aspects will make you stand out and people will always remember what you did for them. If you’ve been operating in a Middle Eastern country for a while, then you should also consider having prayer facilities for your customers. If you can respectfully portray everything you do for them during Ramadan online, it will serve you greatly during those times. Again, you can turn this into something fun and use platforms like Tik Tok or Snapchat or Instagram to inspire creativity and create “feel good” content like cooking videos curated for your audience.

No matter the industry, it’s important to remain authentic in a meaningful way. If you see Ramadan as an opportunity to increase your sales or promotional offers, you’ve already lost. More often than not, some kindness goes a long way and if you can find a way to bring some joy and share your appreciation for your audience during those times, then you’ve done a great job.
