Clubhouse is in the house.

Clubhouse has gotten so much traction over the past month, it’s actually ridiculous. Obviously now, Instagram, Facebook and even Twitter are incorporating the concept into their own platform. Clubhouse in itself was a great idea and it really blew up but now the competition has increased significantly. People might want to stick with one app that does everything as opposed to having multiple apps that only do one thing. Is this already the demise of Clubhouse? Let’s get into more details.

Clubhouse has been around for over a year now and was initially just for the high-profile people like Elon Musk. Slowly but surely, people started inviting people and now, everyone you know is probably already using it. Us at Mint Stalk, all of us are already on it and participate in discussions around Marketing with other influential people in the region - it’s really fun and insightful, you should try. The voice-only social platform has inspired Twitter to create “Spaces” - an audio-only feature with privacy (private rooms) and scheduling features but Twitter has an ‘unfair’ advantage as it already developed the app for both iOS and Android users, and already has millions of existing users on its platform, whereas Clubhouse is still launching on other devices. We saw the same thing happening with Instagram’s reels and TikToks - people started using both and we thought that reels were going to take over eventually but TikTok still remains the preferred choice at this time.

Instagram isn’t copying Clubhouse just yet but it will most probably come soon through Facebook. What Instagram is doing however is allowing multi-participant live rooms, which is not too dissimilar from Clubhouse’s idea as people can now tune into live discussions between participants, influencers and other celebrities. During pandemic times, this is a great move as it gives the chance to people to get involved and socialise on a greater level as opposed to just messaging. This feature has proven to be quite significant during this Women’s month, as very influential women would come on the platform to speak to their audience and raise awareness around gender inequality and how to tackle issues. Here at Mint Stalk, a leading Digital Marketing Agency based in the UAE, we think that this is incredible and progressive as it makes the whole platform a more inclusive, involved and tolerant one, particularly in the Middle East where women need a bit of a push to make their voices heard. This never ending competition between the tech-giants keeps getting more and more entertaining and also quite interesting - the digital landscape is moving at such a fast rate and it’s sometimes difficult to keep up with it but honestly, it’s incredible to be able to be part of it and learn.
