What have the big techs been up to this week?

It seems as if the social media giants have been racing to constantly update their features lately! For us consumers, it’s exciting and keeps the thrill going as to what’s going to be the next best feature. Here at Mint Stalk, a leading Digital Marketing Agency operating in the United Arab Emirates, new features are always great news as it gives more options to play around with for our accounts. Here are some exciting new features this week from your favourite platforms:

  • TikTok:

For those who use TikTok, you’ll be able to do your dancing and lip synching for up to 3 minutes instead of just 60 seconds! Talks around this new feature apparently have been going on since last year and trials with video length have been going on behind closed doors but it’s also true that TikTok has been expanding its products dramatically this year. They stated: “[...] we often hear from creators that they'd love just a little more time to bring their cooking demos, elaborate beauty tutorials, educational lesson plans, and comedic sketches to life with TikTok’s creative tools. With longer videos, creators will have the canvas to create new or expanded types of content on TikTok, with the flexibility of a bit more space.”

  • Facebook:

Facebook was late to join this newsletter trend but has finally come to its senses. The popularity of newsletter platforms have been rising amongst journalists and freelance writers and today, Facebook has announced its new “Bulletin” feature - its own proprietary newsletter platform. Some of the key features include: Robust Publishing tools, Sustainable Business Models, Discovery Distribution and Community Building. An exciting new step for writers who wish to find and build their confidence on this platform. Facebook stated: “Through Bulletin, we want to support these creators, and unify our existing tools with something that could more directly support great writing and audio content — from podcasts to Live Audio Rooms — all in one place. We respect the work of writers and want to be clear that anyone who partners with us will have complete editorial independence.”

  • Twitter:

Twitter is introducing “Close Friends” (copying Instagram again, not surprised) and something else called “Facets”. They’ve been exploring new ways of making the tweets more relevant as well as allowing the people who tweet to pick the audience they want to share it with, because yes, sometimes, you don’t want everyone to see your thoughts, particularly when some of them are controversial. These new features will obviously be private and restricted to the chosen “friends”/followers of those people to see. And that’s it for this week folks!
