It is so easy for some people to be bullies online because no one is around to keep them accountable. Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have been under fire for numerous reasons: banning trump, rigged elections, spread of misinformation, data privacy blah blah blah you name it! Marc Kaplan, the CEO, stated that the company is investing a lot of money to moderate its community as it is important for people to feel safe and encouraged to open-up. Kaplan said that he used Facebook and Twitter before and noticed that there was a definite lack of empathy, and therefore a demand for a platform such as ChekMarc. He also believes that there’s an inherent altruistic drive within people and a deep desire to help others that needs to be harvested. This platform could help people overcome their mental health needs or simply meet up to make friends and work on something meaningful (e.g. community clean-ups, or simply give the granny next door some sugar for her recipe). It could be a great platform for people to network and become more confident in their day to day activities, both in real life and online. Even if the interaction cannot be done face to face, online for now will do just fine. This is great.
